If there is supposedly some idealism behind all hair types then why is straight hair always embraced

like skin color, society seems to suggest that all hair types should be embraced. Yet whenever we see people in tv shows, commercials, e.t.c., even people who have naturally coarse, brown, black, and/or curly hair a majority of the time they have had their hair straightened, dyed, extended, and who knows what else. Take Tyra Banks, for instance. Not only does she wear extensions, but her naturally coarse brown hair is almost always made to look long and straight, and dyed various colors. Ashley Tisdale who costars in the popular film High School Musical has naturally brown curly hair, which she admits to having straightened and dyed blonde because that is what the producers wanted. Even the African American barbie dolls are almost always affixed with straight hair, as if this were to be the standard for the young girls who idolize them. And don't even get me started with those pantene commercials. Lamest crap I have ever seen.

If there is supposedly some idealism behind all hair types then why is straight hair always embraced above al?

It's not just straight long hair, but long hair in general is considered more attractive, on average. When was the last time a leading lady had a short do besides Halle Berry and now even she's grown her hair long.

As for coarse hair vs straight hair, that's just the way it is. People always say they are totally fine with their nappy hair that takes aeons to wash, blow dry, press and curl, but deep down, I think they'd prefer more manageable hair. That's why they press it, or perm it.

Personally, I'd rather have hair I can run my hands through than hair that breaks a comb! Doesn't mean I don't like being black.

Because straighter hair is more "white" and in this society only white is beautiful. That's why even some white people don't escape the stereotype, so instead they dye it blond to look more "white" because if your blond in this society your automatically beautiful. If you don't beleive me try this out.

In this society hoenstly who is gonna get more dates? People have it hardwired into their system that blond is the most beautiful, white is the most beautiful and black is just not. It was hardwired a long time ago dating when slavery began. As soon as they see the hair colour(blond) they automatically assume beautiful. When they see the hair colour as brown they think ok still white..beautiful. When they see black/brown (even though I'm black but have brown hair/eyes/skin) they think...where's the blond?
