How do you make straight fine hair wavy?

I am a boy and have fine hair just past the ears. I kind of want that skater/wavy look to it. Some kids I have seen used to have straight hair and all of a sudden it is wavy. I have read stuff about towel dry, mousse, and blow dry but none of it works. Just lookin for some suggestions. thanks!

Go to a reputable salon and get a consultation from a stylist. They may have some hair products that will add a little bit of wave to your hair so that you wont have to go to the extreme of getting a perm or body wave perm. I just think its best to always talk to a professional first....and please dont get a do it yourself at home kit and perm your hair. I will guarantee it will be a disaster as most home perms end up damaging your hair. Trust me on this. Good Luck!

If there is supposedly some idealism behind all hair types then why is straight hair always embraced

like skin color, society seems to suggest that all hair types should be embraced. Yet whenever we see people in tv shows, commercials, e.t.c., even people who have naturally coarse, brown, black, and/or curly hair a majority of the time they have had their hair straightened, dyed, extended, and who knows what else. Take Tyra Banks, for instance. Not only does she wear extensions, but her naturally coarse brown hair is almost always made to look long and straight, and dyed various colors. Ashley Tisdale who costars in the popular film High School Musical has naturally brown curly hair, which she admits to having straightened and dyed blonde because that is what the producers wanted. Even the African American barbie dolls are almost always affixed with straight hair, as if this were to be the standard for the young girls who idolize them. And don't even get me started with those pantene commercials. Lamest crap I have ever seen.

If there is supposedly some idealism behind all hair types then why is straight hair always embraced above al?

It's not just straight long hair, but long hair in general is considered more attractive, on average. When was the last time a leading lady had a short do besides Halle Berry and now even she's grown her hair long.

As for coarse hair vs straight hair, that's just the way it is. People always say they are totally fine with their nappy hair that takes aeons to wash, blow dry, press and curl, but deep down, I think they'd prefer more manageable hair. That's why they press it, or perm it.

Personally, I'd rather have hair I can run my hands through than hair that breaks a comb! Doesn't mean I don't like being black.

If there is supposedly some idealism behind all hair types then why is straight hair always embraced above al?

Because straighter hair is more "white" and in this society only white is beautiful. That's why even some white people don't escape the stereotype, so instead they dye it blond to look more "white" because if your blond in this society your automatically beautiful. If you don't beleive me try this out.

In this society hoenstly who is gonna get more dates? People have it hardwired into their system that blond is the most beautiful, white is the most beautiful and black is just not. It was hardwired a long time ago dating when slavery began. As soon as they see the hair colour(blond) they automatically assume beautiful. When they see the hair colour as brown they think ok still white..beautiful. When they see black/brown (even though I'm black but have brown hair/eyes/skin) they think...where's the blond?

How can I keep curl in my straight, long hair?

I have long (2 inches past shoulders), thin, straight hair. I've had this hair for 29 years and know it doesn't curl well in humid areas. I've lived in many humid places and it would frequently come out a few hours after curling. I use hot rollers to good success. I wash, dry, then use Redken Spray Starch before I put rollers in, then I spray the whole head with hair spray when rollers are in. I leave them in until they cool (about 10-20 minutes), then spray again with hair spray when I take it out. Problem is...I just moved to CO (which is way LESS humid than any of the other areas I lived in) and it won't curl! I do all the same things I used to do and as soon as I take the curlers out the curl slides out. I use different types of rollers and get the same reaction with all. So now, by the time I get to work I just have hair with a bunch of product in it and no curl (gross). Anyone know what it is? Help!!!

How can I keep curl in my straight, long hair?

i have the same problem. for me what works is mousse, then roll, fix it and a good hard to hold hair spray. the mousse will dry in your hair, if you spray again and then take it down when it is wet and try to fix it you will just undo what you did. it needs to be dry before you style. then spray like crazy. hope this helps

How can I keep curl in my straight, long hair?

your hair is probably way to heavy to hold the curl in..I'd suggest getting some layers cut into your hair..this is probably the best way to achieve the style you want..but if you aren't willing to get your hair cut...try taking smaller sections of hair..so it will not be weighed down..

you can also try a wet roller set, with some product and let it dry over night

good luck :)

How can I keep curl in my straight, long hair?

just put in some hardcore hairspray and try to roll em up, other than that you just want to get a perm on a semi regular basis

How to make straight hair wavy without a perm?

i have straight hair and whats the best way to make soft waves for a day?

How to make straight hair wavy without a perm?

You can crimp it then brush it out so its wavy and fly away. Or you can us Curly Shampoo and conditioner with a leave in conditioner to make it softly rippled.

Good Luck!

Curlers or a curling iron, use hairspray. Or put your hair in French braids after you get out of the shower, sleep on it and take them out in the morning.

curling irons work great.

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

about 5 years ago, I had really full, straight, medium length hair. I've decided to cut it short one day and it became wavy! I started using a flat iron 3 years ago, and used it since....I tried growing my hair long to see if it'll be straight again, but it didn't. Is there a way for my hair to be naturally straight again? I'm tired of using a flat iron....

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

Hair changes, just like your skin. When I hit puberty my hair when from straight to curly! And with each time I've been pregnant my hair has changed: it's become thicker, less curly, etc.

Talk to your hair stylist about find a cut that more suitable to your new waves, as well as more healthy than flat-ironing. Also, I recently read that wavy/curly hair is back in style - so perhaps you will feel more comfortable with your natural look when you see more people trying to achieve it artifically!

Good Luck!

Your hair changes as you grow older.

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

Your body changes about every 7 years...hopefully it will go straight again...

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

Your hair and you sculp's skin changed. That's kinda happened to me too.

I found that my hairs got wavier and my sculp got oilier. I changed hair product. It heped a little.

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

My hair used to be stick straight. I cut it and it became thick and wavy. Ive been stuck with that hair since I was about 10 Im 17 now and for the past 3 Ive been flat ironing my hair.

A few months ago I decided to sleep in instead of waking up an hour and a half earlier to flat iron my hair. That day at school I got so many compliments on how great my hair looked that Ive stopped flat ironing.

Waves are in right now. Everyone wants wavy hair. But anyway you could get it relaxed.

I had really straight hair, but now it's all wavy!?

omg the same thing happened to me! when i was youdner i used to have strait hair and as i got older it became wavy. i dont kno if you can make it permanately straight but you could get a perm and thatll make it straight for a while until you grow it out. also, if you're using a flat iron, i recommend you use the *chi* iron (thats the name of it) it works really well and starighten my hair in like 20 minutes =]

How can i make my hair stick straight in the back?????????

I have overall straight hair, except for the back when it gets about neck length...it tends to curl up on the very ends but i don't know if it is curls or if it is damaged...my hair is thick, yet fine...I got my hair layered about a month ago...my father had stick straight hair; he could grow it forever if he wanted...my mother had curly hair (just for your information)...Anyway i would appreciate any advise...(I wash my hair with hot water...is this bad? I also have a habit of twisting my hair in the back...could this be damaging my hair? Advise GREATLY appreciated).

How can i make my hair stick straight in the back?????????

well, it sounds like the twisting of the hair is what's causing the curls, but it could be otherwise. you can wash your hair with hot water, but rinse it at the end with cold water- it seals the cuticle and keeps the moisture in your hair, decreasing damage from dryness. if you think that the curly hair is the result of damage or thinness, try not to use any heat appliances on it or too much product. once a week, apply a deep conditioning treatment to heal breakage, and rinse out. also, try to only wash your hair every other day, so that the natural oils can help the damage. if all else fails, use a flat iron to straighten that part of your hair. it shouldn't be too much of a hassle.

the dent is probably from having your hair up in a ponytail or other updo for too long. try wearing your hair down more. also, a too-tight ponytail could be the source of hair breakage.

Stick straight hair....?

whats a great product that will keep my hair straight all day? i have a flattening iron, but the effects of stick straight hair only stay for like 30 minutes. what can i use? how much is it and where can i get it?

Stick straight hair....?

CHI flat iron. It works the best. But, you can get it at target for 150. I no alot right, but it's sooo worht it.

Stick straight hair....?

make sure you iron DRY hair. not even the slightest bit damp.

use a HOT iron. drugstore flatirons are not hot enough for most people.

use a flat iron cream to protect your hair from the heat.

t-3 or chi are best

Stick straight hair....?

Try a heat protectant spray with style memory. I use matrix sleek look iron smoother spray. If I use this on completely dry hair then straighten with a hot iron, my hair stays pretty straight. Afterwards, apply a serum (like biosilk silk therapy) to help shield your hair from humidity.
